What we move

Inland container logistics, on rail

LEXMAS specialises in one thing and does it properly: moving containers between Gauteng and the coast by rail — collection, terminal handling, mainline haul and final delivery, under one booking.

01

Rail Container Transport

Scheduled FCL rail slots between Gauteng — City Deep and Pretcon — and the port terminals of Durban, Cape Town, Ngqura and Gqeberha, at rates road can't match on volume.

  • 20ft / 6m open-top containers
  • Fixed weekly departures per corridor
  • Northbound & southbound legs on one booking
02

First & Last-Mile Shuttles

Road shuttles that close the gap: container collection from your premises to the rail terminal, and delivery from the terminal to the final door — timed to the train.

  • Gauteng-wide collection & delivery
  • Timed to rail departure windows
03

20ft Open-Top Specialists

Purpose-built around the 20ft / 6m open-top unit — top-loaded by crane or grab, ideal for machinery, steel, scrap and cargo too tall for standard doors.

  • Top loading by crane or grab
  • Secured & lashed (no tarps)
04

Terminal & Corridor Coordination

Slot bookings, terminal handling, staging and documentation at City Deep, Pretcon and the port rail terminals — so your container never sits waiting for paperwork.

  • Slot & wagon bookings managed
  • Live milestone updates per leg

Rail corridors

Gauteng to the coast

Gauteng is landlocked — so we run its two inland container terminals, City Deep and Pretcon, as your gateway and rail your containers to and from every major South African port.

Why LEXMAS

Rail muscle, local accountability

The economics of rail with the responsiveness of a team that actually answers the phone — and one coordinator who owns your container end-to-end.

One point of contact

A single dedicated coordinator owns your shipment end-to-end. No call-centre queues, no being passed around.

Real-time visibility

Live milestones on every leg — collection, loading, mainline, arrival — so you can plan inventory and cash flow with confidence.

Rail economics

One train replaces dozens of trucks. On volume lanes, rail beats road on cost per container — and cuts CO₂ by around 75%.

Fixed departures

Scheduled weekly slots per corridor mean you plan around a timetable, not a guess. We book you on, you plan ahead.

Transparent pricing

Clear, itemised quotes with no mystery surcharges. You know exactly what you're paying for, before you commit.

Sealed & monitored

Containers travel sealed on secured rail corridors with milestone monitoring — fewer touchpoints than road, less risk in transit.

About LEXMAS

Built to make freight make sense

LEXMAS is a Johannesburg-based inland container logistics company specialising in rail. We were founded on a simple frustration: moving a container across South Africa is treated as something only insiders can understand — buried in acronyms, opaque surcharges and endless email chains. Our directors, Maemu Masianoga and Gerron Fraser, set out to build the rail partner they wished they'd had — one that treats clarity as a service, not an afterthought.

From our base at WeWork The Link in Rosebank, we sit minutes from City Deep — the largest inland container terminal in the southern hemisphere — and within easy reach of Pretcon in Pretoria. We keep our own personnel deployed close to both terminals, so whether your container moves through City Deep or Pretcon it's handled by someone on the ground, not a call centre. That reach lets us treat landlocked Gauteng as a launchpad, railing containers efficiently to and from the terminals at Durban, Cape Town, Ngqura and Gqeberha, with road shuttles closing the first and last mile at both ends.

Whether you're railing your first box up from Durban, a manufacturer with steady weekly volumes, or an SME comparing rail against road for the first time, LEXMAS gives you the economics of rail with the accountability of a team that knows your name and your cargo. That's what we mean by Freight, simplified.

Rail freight, explained

The questions we're asked most by first-time and seasoned shippers alike. Can't see yours? Talk to us.

Rail wins on full-container moves between Gauteng and the coast when you can plan a day or two ahead: cost per container is lower on volume lanes, schedules are fixed, and CO₂ is roughly 75% less than trucking. Road still wins for urgent, same-day or fragmented loads — and we'll tell you honestly which is right for each shipment.

Terminal to terminal, plan on 4–5 days to Durban on the Natal Corridor, including loading and staging. Cape Town runs around 21 days and Ngqura 6–8 days. Add the first- and last-mile legs at each end — we give you a realistic door-to-door estimate with every quote.

Anything containerised and planned: manufactured goods, retail stock, minerals and metals, agri produce, project inputs. If it fits in a 20ft / 6m open-top container and doesn't need to leave today, it almost certainly rails well. Every unit is top-loaded and secured for transit — open-tops travel without tarps.

Yes — but only to and from our loading yards. We run the road legs between our yards and the rail terminals at each end; optional pickups from, and deliveries to, your own premises are available on request. One booking covers every leg.

We book onto scheduled corridor departures and monitor every milestone. In fairness, the Transnet line does see disruption — cable theft and increasingly severe weather can cause delays, and we won't pretend otherwise. When a departure moves you hear it from us first, with a revised ETA and options — not silence. We build buffer into coastal connections as standard and plan it into your schedule.

Yes. You get live milestones for every leg — collected, staged, loaded, departed, arrived, delivered — plus proactive updates from your coordinator. One reference number covers the whole move.
